Happy International Women's Day!

This year, International Women’s Day (IWD) was on the 8th of March 2020. This marks a very important day for women all around the world as the dedicated women’s day was used to eliminate discrimination against women. Every year, many women and even men join forces to continue to press for equality, raise awareness and now we celebrate great achievements from women across the nation.

For me, this year, for IWD, I look at the women closest to me; my mom and sister.

<< My mom has been my continued source of inspiration and it will never stop. She is a single mother that raised 3 children on her own. Sometimes I do wonder how in the world did she manage to do that? She sent all 3 children to universities and as you can imagine, international universities are not cheap to say the least. She brought us to new places, travelled the world together and gave us new experiences. Don’t forget that she was the one that gave me my first camera. My mom is truly a strong, incredible and amazing woman.I am truly mesmerised by her achievements and the list is just endless! Here’s to a lifetime of achievement of being not only an amazing woman, but also an incredible mother and provider. I am the way I am today because of you, so thank you and I love you.

>> Next one close to home is my baby sister. She currently resides in Amsterdam and she just amazes me with her persistency in staying in Europe. As you can imagine, it is not easy being an immigrant in a foreign country as we continually have to prove that we are skillful and worth that sponsorship so that we can remain in the country, live there and earn a living. My sister definitely went through that hurdle and without her patience and persistency, she would not have made it to where she is today. Very proud of you my little sis!

Throughout my photography journey, I have crossed paths with many beautiful, amazing, courageous and successful women and I am forever grateful for that. Here’s a shoutout to all the amazing women that I have had the pleasure to work with and/or photographed. They all come from various backgrounds, cultures, races and yet what they all have in common is being successful industry experts in their field of work. Some are politicians, some are entrepreneurs and some are even CEOs in the company. I’m sure every single one of them have their own stories to tell and how they got to where they are today.

So lets not wait another year before we recognise and celebrate the amazing achievements of women in our lives. If you know anyone that has done something amazing and extraordinary today, recognise them and celebrate with them!
